Mrs. Henry Cochrane Marks 75th birthday

A luncheon in her honor, followed by visits from former Alpena friends Mrs. Will Petherick and Mrs George Hines of Detroit, and a nephew and niece, Mr. And Mrs. Ferris Shenk of Royal Oak, marked the 75th birthday of Mrs. Henry Cochrane, former Alpena resident. Mrs. Cochrane celebrated the occasion at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Arthur Mains, 13910 Alber, Dearborn.

Prior to the big day, Mrs. Mains had alerted sons of Mrs. Cochrane, Robert and Donald of Alpena, and Oran of St. Louis, Mich. That a card and letter shower was scheduled with the aim of 75 letters. Mrs. George Shenk, Baldwin-St, and Charles Herron, Fifth-av, sister and brother of Mrs. Cochrane were in on the surprise, too.

Eight five relatives responded with birthday wishes and 30 Alpena friends were also heard from. Also responding was the Wilson Ladies Aid of which Mrs. Cochrane is a former president.

In Dearborn Mrs. Cochrane attends the Mt. Olivet Methodist Church and is a member of the Women’s Society, a quilting club, and a city recreation sponsored golden-age group called the Pleasant Hours club. Her hobbies include Knitting, crocheting, and quilting. In the past year she knitted 20 pairs of mittens and made 20 pairs of crocheted potholders. She is busy now making booties for great grandchildren. She contributed mittens to overseas relief in Korea and crocheted articles to her church fair in addition to supplying many gifts to relatives.

Mrs. Cochrane is an interested reader of The Alpena News and keeps up on activities of all her friends. Summertime finds her heading north to renew old friendships and visit Cochrane and Herron (she is the former Estella Herron) families in the city and county of Alpena which she still considers home.
