Welcome to My Adventures

You probably know as much as I do as to what you will find here. I hope that as time goes by I will be able to keep your interest and mine. I hope to add some other family materials from the O'Learys, Hustons, and Blacks. Also, there are a few historical Alpena County-related materials that I hope to add.

I extend my apologies to everyone who comes here in that I have not yet figured out how to shut off these stupid banner ads. I expect I'll have to pony up some money to Tripod somehow. Please bear with me until then.

Well, it's the spring of 2002. I finally anted up the cash. The banners are gone. I'm now reorganizing the site. Some stuff may not work for a while. However, this should be short-lived. It's November and it's still not finished. I have started on a major expansion and remodeling. Please hold on.

It's now the late autumn of 2005. I have added some significant pieces over the last year and a half. One was a long folk history by Lorraine Cochrane Mains in the autumn of 2004. It included a number of drawings by her daughters. Another was a series of articles about "old" Eular Thorne , who died in 1956 or thereabouts at the age of 106. THis autumn I have uploaded a number of photos of George Colburne Herron and Catherine Link Herron and of their daughter Anna (Julia) Herron and her husband William King and their children. Thanks to Myra Herron, Harlo's daughter, I have a number of other photos from her dad's collection and that she scanned from the collections of Carol Mains Finley and her sisters. I hope to get a number of them up before Christmas this year.

It's now nearly March, 2010. I have been on a hiatus for a few years. My father's death really sapped my enthusiasm for a lot longer than I ever imagined possible. In the meantime we pulled up the stakes of our tent show and moved closer to scene of the original crime. We moved to Rochester Hills, north of Detroit. We moved about a month after dad died. I took a networking job with Comerica Bank. Dee continues to work remotely for her environmental company she worked for in Concord, CA. We are doing pretty well. I managed a couple of seasons on a 1200 Sportster. The kids seem to be doing pretty well at Madonna's old high school, Rochester Adams. Someone forwarded a H.S. photo of Madonna, and I swear I recognized the bricks in the background. Unfortunately, Dee's dream of semi-retirement were rudely interrupted when I was diagnosed with ALS. I am now one of Jerry's kid's. This means that Deirdre must take care of a Phailing Olde Phart as well as raise two daughters, keep tabs on my mother whose health is failing, as well as tend to her part-time job out of the basement. We live in the eternal hope of the stem cell cure. Then I can get back to work try resolve some financial ambiguities resulting from the 2008 meltdown.
