David married Ada Virginia Hilliker on 7 Apr 1891 in the home of Ada's parents in Lincoln Nebraska, daughter of Samuel Fred Hilliker and Henrietta B. Dusenberry. Ada was born on 25 Jul 1871 in Bucyrus, Crawford, Ohio, died on 27 Aug 1952 in Boulder, Colorado at age 81, and was buried in Aug 1952 in Boulder, , CO, USA.

Marriage Notes: The Democrat Era, April 30, 1891 A happy marriage occurred at the home of the brides parents in Lincoln, Nebraska on Tuesday April 7, 1891. Miss Ada Hilliker and Mr David Huston of Ida Grove, were united in matrimony. Rev. Geo. Ferguson officiated the ceremony.

D. E. Houston Dies Of Injury In Auto Wreck

Suffered Broken Back When Auto Turned Over on Slippery Highway Near Evanston, Wyoming.

David Edgar Houston, widely known and popular Boulder citizen, died in a hospital at Evanston, Wyo., last week of injuries he suffered in an automobile accident October 30, 12 miles east of that city. Mr. Houston's body was brought back to Boulder Sunday afternoon and the funeral will be held at his late home, 2221 Walnut street, at 2 p.m. Tuesday. Mrs Florence Fisher of the pentacostal mission and the Columbia lodge 14 A.F.& A.M. will be in charge. Burial will be in Columbia cemetery. The automobile that Mr. Houston was driving and riding in alone, skidded on some snow at the junction with the Kremmerer road and rolled over an embankment. The sheriff of the county was in a car right behind Mr. Houston and witnessed the accident. He took him to the Evanston hospital where it was found that Mr. Houston had suffered a broken back and was paralyzed from the neck down. He did not lose consciousness until a few days before he died.

Born in Canada

Mr. Houston was born June 11, 1864 at Lachute, Quebec, Canada. His family moved to Alpena, Mich., and later to Ida Grove, Iowa. He was educated in the schools at Ida Grove and at Davenport. On April 7, 1891 he was married to Miss Ada Hilliker of Lincoln, Neb., and to this union four sons were born. In 1899 Mr. and Mrs. Houston had been traveling in Colorado, New Mexico, Wyoming and Utah. In later years he represented the Ripon Knitting company of Ripon, Wis., The Bass Shoe company of Wilton, Maine; the [?] Fairfield, Iowa, and Joseph Herman Shoe company of Boston, Mass.

Prominent Mason

He was a life member of Lincoln Lodge No. 19 A.F. and A.M., of Lincoln, Neb., member of Royal Arch Chapter No. 7, Boulder, and of the Santa Fe, New Mexico, consistory. Survivors are the wife and the four sons, Donald M. Houston of Butte, Mont., Roy E. Houston of Denver, and Jean C. Houston of Oakland, Calif. Other survivors are John Hilliker, brother of Mrs. Houston, who makes his home with his sister; Miss Ruby Houston, a sister, who resides at Lyle, Minn., Mrs. Ella Hewitt, a sister, at Lyle, Minn. John Houston a brother of Wallace, Idaho, and Susie Levy, an aunt of Visalia, Calif.

David E. Houston received his citizenship to the United States in Lincoln, Lancaster County Nebraska on May 4, 1899 .

Grandfather: Jean Houston (moved to California after the army around 1921)

Jean married Elsie Muriel Crosby on 22 Aug 1927 in San Francisco, California, USA, daughter of George Ervin Crosby and Callie D. Miller. Elsie was born on 12 Jan 1905 in Dewitt, Arkansas, Arkansas, died on 23 Jan 2000 in Castro Valley, Alameda, California at age 95, and was buried in Jan 2000 in Oakland, Alameda, Califiornia.

Marriage Notes: Married on 22 August 1927 and the recorded filed on 26 August 1927 in Book 269, Page 455, Records of the city and county of San Francisco.

Jean Cameron Houston was born on 18 Feb 1901 in Denver, Arapahoe, Colorado, died on 3 May 1979 in Orinda, Contra Costa, California at age 78, and was buried in May 1979 in Oakland, Alameda, Califiornia.
